Chicago is a vibrant and friendly city, a city of neighborhoods. Each neighborhood has it’s own identity and feel, and something different to offer. As a way of getting their bearings newcomers often ask what the neighborhood ‘boundaries’ are, as they may have heard names of areas from friends or read on the web. Some neighborhoods have neighborhoods within in them, or neighborhoods that share a border look and feel very similar. For example, Lincoln Park includes part of Old Town and DePaul. Bucktown and Wicker Park have almost become synonymous. Many neighborhood lines have become blurred over time.
When deciding on a neighborhood, you need context. What will your commute be? Where will you shop or go out to eat? Where is the local gym? Do you like the area and can you see yourself living there?
As a resident since 1991, I have enjoyed many fun runs and bike rides in the city. It’s a great way to meet people and see the city from a different perspective. When you are running or riding a bike, you have time to look around and familiarize yourself with an area that you maybe haven’t seen before. Recently some clients relocating from Boston mentioned that after running a few neighborhood fun runs they had a new appreciation for the areas we had been touring homes. Brilliant idea! Fleet Feet and the Chicago History Museum are on to the idea too with a different twist, adding history to it. Check out their Historical Fun Run Series 2014
