Opera Don Giovanni Live Simulcast In Millennium Park
Opera in the park? Yes, indeed! On May 9th, watch a live broadcast of Mozart's famous opera on a jumbo screen in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park (201 E. Randolph St.) as it takes place onstage in the Harris Theater. Europe's renowned baritone Iain Paterson makes his American debut in the title role. Lookingglass Theatre’s Annual Madhatter’s Ball
The Lookingglass Theatre has been on the cutting edge of theatre since its inception in 1988. the Madhatter’s Ball brings together creatively dressed guests for a night of celebrating that always includes special celebrity hosts, Chicago entrepreneur Billy Dec and actors David Schwimmer and Joey Slotnick. Since 2003, Madhatter’s Ball has been the most talked-about annual event in Chicago. The ball is an excellent opportunity for people to support the Lookingglass Theatre while socializing with some of the city’s most exciting individuals. Manifest Urban Arts Festival - Over 2,000 Columbia College Graduates Bring Art to the Streets. On Friday, May 16, 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Manifest is an annual celebration of Columbia’s graduating undergraduate and graduate student body of work. This urban arts festival occurs on our vibrant South Loop campus and showcases the talent, celebrates the community and engages the imagination while realizing the full potential of our students. Over 75 showcases in numerous creative media including film and video screenings, lectures, gallery exhibitions. Highlights include: Web casts, performances, radio and television broadcasts and more. TICTOC is a performance art festival. A presentation of Cambodian song and cuisine, a poetry tattoo parlor, a dj spinning old 78 records, and a woman sharing date disasters via bullhorn are just some of the things you will see from TICTOC, which presents diverse examples of performance art to thrill and challenge audiences. Spectacle Fortuna: The parade that defies description! Join us as we celebrate our students’ creativity. Spectacle Fortuna features giant puppets, mobile music installations, costumes and Columbia’s signature brand of school spirit, within the recycling-inspired theme. Chicago Antique Market Celebrates 5th Anniversary
Five years ago the Chicago Antique Market burst on the scene, quickly earning an international reputation as one of the finest and most diverse markets in the world. Starting May 24-25, the Market celebrates its fifth anniversary with a new name, a new look, new hours, new elements and new vendors but serious antique collectors, style-setters, fashion mavens and shoppers will more than ever find the most exciting array of vintage and modern decorative objects, home furnishings, art, fashion and jewelry that has ever been assembled in downtown Chicago.
Held at 1350 W. Randolph Street in Chicago’s West Loop, the European-style indoor/outdoor Randolph Street Market Festival is home to the world-renowned Chicago Antique Market and Indie Designer Market. The Market features more than 200 vendors selling a wide array of merchandise, plus onsite dining, wine bar, interactive demonstrations and live music. New this year are mini "markets within the Market" including the Vinyl Swap Meet, featuring collectable, rare and original vinyl recordings for audiophiles and nostalgic music lovers; the Global Goods Bazaar. Additionally classic cars and vintage Schwinn bicycles from the 1960s and 1970s will be for sale.
